II.         ASSIGNED DUTIES AND TASKS

 Position overview:  Position is responsible for the operation and maintenance of county equipment that provides maintenance of roads and bridges in Park County. The shop mechanic works directly with the road and bridge supervisor and along with the other team members on projects when assigned. Position is subject to the DOT federal drug testing requirements for a Commercial Vehicle License including a two-year clean testing history.  You must have a valid license to operate equipment.

 All duties below are essential functions unless otherwise indicated. Duties of the position are not all inclusive and subject to change.

 Mechanic Team Duties:

a)          To schedule vehicles and equipment needing service, repairs, warranty work or updates with regard to Road and Bridge priorities. To complete work orders for completed repairs. Keeps individual equipment repair and maintenance records.

 b)          To complete vehicle repair processes in a timely, efficient and accurate manner. This may include working on equipment that is in the field and not operable during inclement weather.

 c)    To order parts for repairs including price quotes for parts and places orders timely and efficiently. To complete parts inventory annually.

 d)          Keeps shop clean and organized including tools.  Periodically inspects tools for DLI standards to ensure safety for Road Team members.

 

Operator Team Duties:

 

a)     Reports and record keeping. Operators are required to maintain time, production, and equipment inspection records with accuracy and in a timely manner.

b)    On call: for emergencies year round and especially for snow removal during winter months.

 c.) OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED:  as requested by Supervisor.

III.       KNOWLEDGE

 Must have ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Must have ability to read and interpret documents such as, but not limited to, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and/or other documents, blue prints, etc.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively and courteously to the public.  Must have ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Must be skilled in driving and operating heavy equipment vehicles for testing and diagnosis.  Should be skilled in basic welding, cutting and fabricating metals.  Must have ability to understand and operate special tools and diagnostic equipment. Must have basic computer skills.

 

Education and Experience: Must have the experience normally obtained through a high school diploma, GED or HiSET.  Must have four plus years’ commercial equipment mechanical experience and/or training. Actual in the field operating experience with equipment such as graders, loaders, backhoes and trucks would be an asset for this position.  Additional basic experience in welding, chainsaw operation, and tractor mowing experience preferred.

 CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Commercial Driver’s License (Class A, Type 1) required with a clean driving history for two years. Endorsements: tank, can be obtained within 30 days of hire.  Must have two years of clean drug testing history. ASE certification, although not required, would be an added bonus.
