Position overview: This position is responsible for the operation of heavy equipment for the Park County Solid Waste Department. This position includes collection of refuse using roll off trucks and front load refuse trucks. Maintenance of collection sites and equipment is required on a regular basis. Position is subject to the DOT federal drug testing requirements for a Commercial Vehicle License including a two-year clean testing history. You must have a valid license to operate equipment.

Education and experience
Must have one to two years’ related experience and/or training on heavy equipment, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working with the public is preferred.
Certificates, licenses, registrations:
Valid Commercial Driver’s License Class A with no manual transmission restrictions.
This position makes decisions regarding the solid waste operations and services on a daily basis. Work requires the interpretation and application of solid waste/refuse laws in accordance with Park County policies and applicable laws. Actions and services provided have a direct impact on the financial integrity of the County as a whole. Work is covered by established guidelines, and policy manuals are available.
This position plans and carries out most assignments independently, and uses judgment and initiative to solve problems, such as troubleshooting work related problems. Will work to develop and recommend new processing procedures in response to identifying process inefficiencies, frequent errors, etc. Work objectives and priorities are defined by Solid Waste Foreman and the Public Works Director. Working cooperatively with other team members is essential.

This position has contacts with other the public, county personnel, elected officials, department heads, and vendors such as; Department of Environmental Quality, engineering firms, etc. in order to be responsive to questions and inquiries regarding roads and bridges.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to reach with hands or arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and smell. The employee is regularly required to talk and/or hear.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
The position requires the following special vision requirements: close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point), depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships), and the ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus). The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
