I.          POSITION IDENTIFICATION

Pay Grade: 5 (range $15.85 to $19.40)                    Title: ANGEL LINE RELIEF BUS DRIVER

Non-Exempt: Permanent Fill-In - occasional and varied hours

Supervisor:    Angel Line Transit Coordinator

II.         ASSIGNED DUTIES AND TASKS

 

Position Overview:  This relief driver role is available for the Angel Line Transit department at Park County.  Our Angel Line services provide prescheduled door-to-door transportation to Park County residents aged 60 and over and disabled individuals. This position safely and efficiently operates the bus while providing excellent, friendly service to the riders.

 

All duties below are essential functions unless otherwise indicated. Duties of the position are not all inclusive and subject to change.

 

Angel line Transportation Services:

 A.   To provide safe transportation services to Angel Line customers with excellent service.  This includes assisting passengers to and from their door and the vehicle as needed. Use of a wheelchair lift or ramp and wheelchair securement using equipment provided may be required.  Follow the daily schedule as provided by the Transportation Coordinator. Drivers will follow all traffic and safety laws.  Drivers will dismount and offer assistance to all passengers entering or exiting the vehicle.  The driver may also make minor adjustments to the schedule to enhance service pending the acquiescence of all passengers involved. Drivers can wait up to 6 minutes past a scheduled pick up time for a passenger without adversely affecting the daily schedule. Drivers must have a charged cell phone with them and turned on at all times during working shift in order to check messages when NOT operating the vehicle. Drivers are not allowed to participate in any activity that causes distracted driving while the bus is operating. Messages can be checked when the vehicle is turned off or in parking gear.  Buses are to be fueled regularly to maintain a fuel level above half a tank. Drivers clean the buses during slow times. Montana Law requires drivers and passengers to use seat belts.  The drivers ensure compliance with this safety requirement and shall follow all rules set out in the driver’s procedures.

III.       KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

General knowledge of the streets and roads in Park County, most of which will be within the limits of the City of Livingston. Ability to drive safely and efficiently and obey traffic laws. Ability to effectively work and communicate with a wide range of individuals from all socio-economic groups. Ability to read, interpret and implement driving regulations, rules and procedure manuals. Ability to work with minimal supervision and effectively manage work flow. Must demonstrate an ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints from riders and treat all riders with respect and patience. Ability to prepare accurate and timely reports. Knowledge on how to operate an automatic transmission and have basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance.

 

Education and Experience:  Experience equal to that normally obtained through a High School Diploma, GED or HSET. Must have a valid Montana Driver’s license with good driving record. Experience working with the public.  Have a good rapport with customers or experience in a field serving the Park County community is preferred.

 

 

IV.       ACCOUNTABILITY

 

This position ensures compliance with statutes, rules, requirements, and laws regarding the safe operation of the buses and passenger safety. Specific laws, regulations and processes (Driver’s Procedures) are available and must be followed. The person in this position is empowered to exercise good judgment in applying these laws, regulations and processes.

The position requires handling non-public confidential information.  The person in the position acknowledges the confidential nature of non-public information regarding county employees, elected officials and the public.  Consistent with applicable policies and guidelines, this position will respect and safeguard the privacy of employees, elected officials, the public and Park County and the confidential nature of information in accordance with Montana state law, without limiting the general nature of this commitment. This position will not access or seek to gain access to confidential information regarding any past or present employees, elected officials, and Park County in the course of fulfilling job responsibilities.  The person in the position hereby acknowledges that the person understands that in this context, confidential information is considered all non-public information that can be personally associated with an individual. 

If in the course of executing job responsibilities, the person in the position accidentally accesses information that others might consider inappropriate for this position to access, the person in the position will notify the person’s supervisors of the date and time of the access.  If a question arises at a later time, it will be understood that the access was accidental.  The person in the position will not disseminate any such information.

Transit Coordinators and Bus Drivers may receive confidential information from passengers coming to and from medical appointments.  Any information shared with a driver must not be repeated.

VI.       INDEPENDENCE OF ACTION

 

This position follows driving routes/schedules and laws and regulations, and occasionally uses judgment and initiative to solve problems, such as troubleshooting interruptions to the daily schedule, special rider requests or problems.  Will work to develop and recommend new ideas in response to identifying future problems. Work objectives and priorities are defined with the Angel Line Site Manager.

VII. PERSONAL CONTACTS

 

This position has daily contact with the public, county personnel, elected officials, department heads and vendors in order to be responsive to questions and inquiries regarding Angel Line.  They are often the only contact the passengers have with county employees.  Providing the best personal service to our passengers is vital to the operation of Park County transportation departments. Being professional and courteous is necessary.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • The incumbent must be able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and must be able to work under time and/or deadline pressures.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
